The eye lands in the middle first. A grinning harlequin figure leans up out of a circular opening at the center of the rug, hands hooked over the rim, and everything else in the composition arranges itself around that moment.

Design Story

The design is built like a patchwork quilt read from above. A ring of pieced blocks — checkerboards, diamonds, burgundy and burnt-orange stripes — frames a set of illustrated panels: two carved pumpkins, a gold crescent moon, an eight-point star, a perched raven, a striped circus tent and a gilded carnival mask. At the core, the jester's belled cap and pleated ruff sit in warm amber light, his eyes glowing against a black stitched grin. The trompe-l'oeil opening gives the flat circle unexpected depth, while the border keeps it contained.

Room & Styling

As a floor piece, the round silhouette works in its favour. The centered figure acts as a medallion, readable from standing height, while the outer ring of motifs holds the edge and keeps the shape crisp against wood flooring. Its scale anchors a seating area without competing with furniture, and the muted orange, cream and near-black palette reads as seasonal decor rather than novelty.
